How do you fly with a new baby?
Rosalie and I are going to Rochester, New York on the 8th and I have no idea what to do to fly with a baby. What sort of identification do I need for her? What should I bring with me for the airport/flight? Should I check the carseat at the luggage check or should I bring it with me and check it at the gate when I board? Anyone have any suggestions about what I should do/bring and things I should do to prepare, please please let me know. Help me out. The only thing I do know is to have her either eating or sucking on her pacifier at take off and landing. I'm so nervous about this. Flying always makes me nervous and now I'm taking my baby with me and it scares me even more. Advice please!!!!

We checked our stroller at the gate but our carseat was checked with the rest of our luggage. If your holding the baby and not paying for a seat, then there really is no need to bring the carseat on the airplane. You can't check a carseat at the gate. If you bring it that far with the stroller, then the carseat counts as a carryon but only if it fits in the overhead bin. If it doesn't, then you have to check it with your baggage. You don't need any identification for the baby if it's obvious they're under the age of 2. It's wise to let the airline know before hand if you're traveling with an infant. It saves time at the checkin counter. You're allowed to bring bottles/formula, sometimes they make you taste the milk to prove it's not an explosive. A diaper bag doesn't count as one of your carry-ons, neither does the stroller. This is knowledge from experience and from working for an airline. I hope it helps.
Great advice from Tim and Tricia. I agree. I would also call the airline and make sure about every other question you might have. It will give you peace of mind. Don't over pack! And get there with plenty of time to avoid rushing with Rosalie.
Say your prayers and enjoy! It will be fine. You will have a wonderful time. Your family will adore Rosalie. See you soon!
Love, Love!
I had to take NJ from Florida to Utah when he was three weeks old and I was terrified, but it was pretty easy. He slept the whole time...the noise of the plane lulled him to sleep. I checked everything with my luggage so it was less to carry. I thought he would cry during takeoff/landing, but he didn't at all. Anyway, good luck!
Hey Courtney! You might want to just bring her birth certificate, but they probably wont' even ask for it. (they only did after I told them I had it) We just checked our stroller/carseat at the gate so we could use it around the airport, and that worked really good. I was worried about Quinn sucking on something for the take off and landing, too, but when it came time for it, he was asleep or else he didn't want his binki and he did fine. Have a fun trip, and I'm sure that sweet baby will do just fine! Good luck!
I just read everyone's comments and it was super useful!
